I'm a bilingual director, screenwriter, and creative video producer with experience in Latin America, Spain, the United States, and India. Currently exploring AI filmmaking.

With degrees from Bard College and the New York Film Academy, I’ve written and directed the short films Us, Echo, and Sea Sparkles, as well as the feature films You’re a Man Now and The World of Dreams. I’ve been lucky enough to secure several public grants from ACAU and PUA in Uruguay, INCAA in Argentina, and I won at Hack Mafiz during the 2023 Málaga Film Festival. In 2018, I also took part in the prestigious Ibermedia and Fundación Carolina Ibero-American Film Project Development Lab. My short film Sea Sparkles, starring Enzo Vogrincic, premiered at LesGaiCineMad and is distributed by Filmin, Peccadillo Pictures, and Flixxo. The Story

Let’s tone down the grandiosity (💅) with a story:

Every story needs a starting point, or so they say. I’m not sure if my journey into storytelling began when I used to sneak into my sister’s bedroom to play with her Barbies or during my emo preteen years when I was lost in Harry Potter and Saint Seiya forums, churning out some pretty questionable fan fiction. What I do know is that one day, I decided I wanted to be a writer: first for theater and later for film when I fell in love with Pedro Almodovar’s work.

A few summers later, I took a screenwriting and directing course at the Prague Film School, and eventually decided to go all-in on my dream by studying Film at Bard College in New York (and later at the New York Film Academy). Bard College is more hippie 🙏🏼 than industrial, so when I graduated, I didn’t move to Hollywood like they expected back home in Uruguay. Instead, I landed in Brooklyn, working as a videographer for various NGOs.

But of course, the fiction lover in me couldn’t stay quiet for long, so in 2017, twenty-something Diego hopped on a plane back to Montevideo, “just to see what happens” 🤯. And a lot did: I wrote three feature films, secured public development and production grants, participated in labs and residencies with my projects, and made a short film that premiered at LesGaiCineMad and is now available on Filmin and Flixxo. I also spent several years at the Uruguayan production company RACCORD CINE, where I handled script analysis, created dossiers, moodboards, public grant applications, developed marketing strategies, and assisted in co-production negotiations and option contracts (it’s all still in my CV if you’re curious 😉).

Now, I live in Madrid, drawn by the booming film and tv scene here. I continue to write dramas, dramedies, and have even dabbled in parodies—both for personal projects and commissioned work. I’m also passionate about new technologies and am currently experimenting with AI in creative and development processes.
